The Philadelphia Chapter of IFMA has long been a supporter and partner in advancing the FM profession by promoting Facility Management education in our region -- from our annual student scholarship awards though the IFMA Foundation to our work to bring recognized FM educational programs to the region, to delivering quality programs and events to all of our members. One of the most aggressive goals the Chapter advanced in 2006 was to facilitate development of an IFMA-recognized facility management degree program in the Philadelphia area. In response to the voice of the membership, we needed to provide a broad spectrum of educational offerings to address the needs of a wide variety of stakeholders. The Chapter created an Education Task Force that has been working diligently with several local academic institutions and IFMA’s Professional Development staff to build comprehensive education opportunities in the Philadelphia region. The Chapter developed a letter of commitment that outlines our willingness to provide a host of resources including finances, marketing, instructors and mentors in support of this goal. We are expanding the mentoring program for the students at those local schools so that we have the opportunity to share our experiences and connect their goals to the FM profession.
